On a daily basis, we hear about some new impressive technology being released. Google is a company that constantly provides new technology for both businesses and the mass public to use. They offer the best search engine, the best map service, a large e-book library, and now they are experimenting with some awesome voice-activation software. Google is aiming to revolutionize the way we use voice-activation by making it better and easier to use.

Speech recognition has been around for quite sometime now. The main issue with the current technology is how different a computer microphone is compared to a phone. Google released the first version of the voice-activation technology on their android phones. You were able to search the web without having to type in your search terms. The biggest feature that came from the Android version of the voice-activation technology was Google Voice Actions. It allowed you to interact with your phone without type or touching anything. You were able to text, open apps, send emails, and just surf the internet with the power of your voice. Google is now looking to revolutionize voice-activation on the desktop with Google Voice Search for the desktop.

The desktop version of Voice Search is still a little rocky. It's harder to use a computer microphone due to the microphone not being as sensitive as a phone. You also pick up more ambient noise when using a desktop microphone. This presented a challenge for the Google team. They created a lot of new algorithms to help conquer those challenges. The new product is definitely something amazing and it's giving Google a lot of ideas of future products using Google Voice Actions such as robots and interactive products.

You may be wondering what benefit this new technology could be offering your business. Imagine that a customer can walk in and talk to a robotic greeter and get directions to wherever they need to go. The customer could “talk” to a robot or computer and get assistance. You could also use the technology to create interactive demos or activities for your guests and customers. You could have them interact by giving voice commands. They could also search a store inventory just by voice alone without having to bother the store staff. The possibilities are endless and it will be interesting to see what Google will provide later on down the road.
