E-tailers enjoyed growth this year over last for the early holiday shopping rush. Figures for Black Friday and Cyber Monday showed healthy increases (over 15 percent) for the kick-off to the 2010 holiday shopping season. If your business has an online store, there are some things to be extra mindful of as we get through to the final days of the holiday shopping.

Make sure site visitors can easily see and use "view cart". The feature should be in the upper right-hand corner for customer convenience.

Make the "add to cart" feature obvious and large. Emphasize by size and/or color that your shopping site is secure. Further, make sure you have downloaded all the current bug fixes and upgrades for the major Internet browsers. Anything that slows down your site is a bad thing.

Make any promotions easy to find and use for your customers.

Consider building a "daily deal" feature. There seems to be a heightened awareness during the holidays about time-sensitive shopping. And, consumers have just become more accustomed to the idea that there are unique special promotions on a daily basis. Use your Facebook or Twitter to promote and build a mailing list that encourages customers to sign up for daily specials.

Highlight the "checkout" button so it is obvious.

Review your suggested "add on" items in the checkout process and scrutinize the suggestions to leave only very directly related items. Make the process extraordinarily simple and easy to navigate.

Think, too, about clearly communicating any fulfillment and shipping milestones. Make sure your customers know their shipping options clearly and when they will receive their order. Maybe even send a reminder email to your database with a shipping calendar.

Put some effort into reviewing and revising, if necessary, your return policy. Make it simple.

Finally, it is time to already think about your strategy for January. Happy holidays!
